Emily has arrived!

On January 13, 2009, Emily was delivered to us by a stork! It started out at about 1:00am on Tuesday morning when Erin's water bag broke. We called the doctor and made our way over to Labor and Delivery at Iberia Medical. Labor was going very smooth. She had dialated about 4 cm when Erin decided to get an epidural. About 15 minutes after the epidural, the baby's heart rate dropped dramatically. The nurses had Erin change positions to try to move the umbilical cord, because they figured that the cord was caught up. Well after getting the heart rate back up, it still wasn't at an acceptable level. So, they decided to have an emergency c-section. I followed the nurses and Erin to the operating room. Everything had turned from smooth to chaotic in a matter of seconds. Upon entering the operating room, I saw at least six nurses and doctors. And, there was Erin laying on the operating table with a curtain over her chest. The doctors pointed me where to sit right next to Erin's head. I held her hand and told her everything was going to be fine. I peaked over the curtain and watched one doctor/nurse hand Emily to another person. A couple of minutes later, the nurse called out "where's daddy?" It was so fast paced that I wasn't paying attention. Then I heard it again, "where's daddy?" I then looked over and saw a doctor/nurse with his outstretched arms holding our baby wrapped in a cloth. I grabbed Emily, held her close, and showed her to Erin. We both cried tears of joy. It had not gone the way we planned, but we couldn't be happier with the results. We have been blessed with a wonderful baby girl. She was 8lb 12oz and 20" at birth. Her eyes are dark blue. So far, she enjoys crying, feeding, and sleeping. (Follow my link "Emily's Photos" on the right of this text to see her)
